Discovery College gets Good Ofsted rating

We are delighted to announce that after a recent Ofsted inspection Discovery College has earned praise from inspectors and is judged to be ‘Good’ across the board.

Inspectors said that “learners receive high-quality and effective support that helps them overcome their barriers to being in education.” They also commented that “young people at Discovery College develop a positive attitude to their studies due to the small size of the college and the positive relationships they build with their teachers. Learners feel safe.”

Ofsted inspectors spent considerable time assessing the quality of the provision at the College and interviewed students, parents and staff over three days.

In regards to the college careers programme, which helps students prepare for the next step of their journey, inspectors noted that “Learns are well informed about their future options as a result of regular information from teachers, careers advisors and industry representatives.”

The careers support on offer at Discovery College includes meaningful encounters with employers through work experience, mock interviews, guest speakers and external visits.

Education Manager Kirsten Puddephatt said: “We are delighted with the positive result from the Ofsted inspection. This reflects the high level of support that we offer to our students and we are very proud of this outcome.”

The provision was assessed as part of Plymouth City Council’s education and skills provision, which includes other training providers in the city such as On Course South West.
